Things to Remember… At the Mall

v  Stay with your parents, if you want to see something of your interest, inform them before leaving.

v  If you lose track of your parents, that means you are lost, follow these steps; call out to them, look around in the passageway, approach the management and give your name and your parent’s telephone number. IMPORTANT: Don’t Cry!

v  Remember to do lots and lots of window shopping. Look around to see all the different sorts of things. This will increase your knowledge.

v  Don’t go near escalators and elevators if you are not using them.

v  Remember where your Mum and Dad parked the car. They would be thankful.

v  Remember to carry some of your pocket money. Ask your parents before you spend it.

v  Avoid talking to strangers.

v  Be careful in the parking lot.

v  Take responsibility of your younger brother and sisters.

v  Be careful when pushing the trolley so that you don’t bump into people and edges.

Things to Remember… When Carrying Someone Else’s Money

§  Don’t fold the notes too many times.

§  Keep the money in your wallet’s zipper and not in your pocket.

§  Do not mix the notes with your personal money. Always use a separate section of your wallet.

§  Request the person to put the money in a sealed envelope, if possible.

§  Do not use the money for any other purpose; that would be cheating!

§  Do not tell any stranger that you are carrying money.

§  Always count the money before taking it from someone. Writing the amount on a piece of paper is even better.

§  When you accomplish your responsibility, call the concerned person to inform that you have handed the money to the right person.

§  Seek your parents’ permission before taking up such responsibility. Follow their advice.

§  If you refuse to help someone with such a task, do suggest alternative solutions like money transfer services or courier.

Things to Remember… When Crossing a Street

§  Follow the road safety rules.

§  Look at both sides of the road before crossing.

§  If someone offers you to hold their hand while crossing, accept their offer. Do not think you are too old for it.

§  Listening is important. You might not be able to see a vehicle coming from an odd junction but you can hear its noise.

§  Avoid talking to anyone. Safety is vital.

§  Never run or stop in the middle of the road.

§  Take adult help for carrying huge or odd shaped things, like boxes, bicycles, prams, trolley bags, etc.

§  Watch out for drivers who do not abide by the traffic rules. There are vehicles coming from the wrong way.

§  Take your time and cross the road only when you are confident.

§  If you drop something on the road, do not be in a hurry to pick it. It is not more important than you are.

Things to Remember… After a Spill

o   Identify and move away any important documents or electronic gadgets that might get damaged by the liquid.

o   Find the closet source to clean the spill; tissue, cloth, towel, etc.

o   Prevent the spill from affecting other surfaces. If the spill was on a table, make sure the liquid doesn’t drip off to the chair/s or to the floor.

o   Start cleaning from the outer edges to the center of the spill.

o   If any liquid other than water was spilt, make sure you take a wet wipe and clean the surface.

o   If your parents or someone is upset with you, try to understand their concern.

o   Apologize for your mistake and provide as much help as possible.

o   Don’t blame yourself for the mistake.

o   Accidents are unavoidable, however we should be careful.

Things to Remember… When You are Alone

  • Don’t spend time thinking that you are alone.
  • Boredom can be conquered by engaging in simple activities, like reading a book, watching TV or playing video games.
  • Don’t open the main door for anyone. Ignore even the regular visitors like the laundry man.
  • Keep the noise level in the house low so in case someone is at the door, you can pretend as though you’re not at home.
  • Make sure you keep the mischievous thoughts away. You might end up in an accident. 
  • Stay away from electrical appliances in the kitchen and do not turn on the gas/electric stove.
  • Do not go in the balcony or in the garden.
  • Keep the doors and the windows locked.
  • Remember to follow the instructions your parents give you.

Things to Remember… When Keeping a Wallet

Ø  A wallet too big is difficult to carry. Buy one that easily fits your pockets.

Ø  Prefer a wallet with a zip as the money notes will not drop off.

Ø  Write your name, contact number and email address in one of the pockets. In case you loose it, someone might be able to return it to you.

Ø  Coins do make the wallet heavy but it is always a good idea to have some handy. You can make quick purchases or help your parents get the parking ticket.

Ø  Before keeping any important documents in your wallet, inform your parents.

Ø  For emergencies, keep a list of contact numbers of some of your relatives.

Ø  Equip your wallet with bandages, toothpicks and tissues.

Ø  Take responsibility of your gaming cards. It will save your parents the trouble of storing them.

Ø  Cary a part of your pocket money, and remember savings are vital!

Ø  Even if you have money on you, ask your parents before making a purchase. They will help you take the right decision.

A big hello from Mariam and Fatima!
The latest addition to the site is a page on quotes and sayings written by us. The sayings are based on concepts that have guided us in life and we are thankful these concepts formed before any tough lesson of life. We were gifted with wisdom long before we needed it. A scary title of a book comes to the mind is, ‘Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart’, we are thankful our case has been the opposite.
